Western History Association's 1st Annual Photography Competition 

The Western History Association Office will host a photography contest for emerging photographers in the San Antonio area. The organization's intention is to use the winner's photo as the cover of the 2018 WHA Conference Program. All other finalists will have their work displayed throughout the program. This contest will provide an exciting opportunity to showcase the talent of local and emerging artists who capture the history and diversity of Texas.

Rules and Requirements

  • All applicants must submit photographs of the following locations: The Alamo, the River Walk, Pearl Brewery, San Antonio Mission Trail, and the Institute of Texan Cultures Museum. 
  • Applicants are encouraged, but not required, to highlight the 2018 WHA theme of Re-imagining Race and Ethnicity in the West.  
  • This contest is limited to local, emerging artists only. The purpose of this contest is to support local artists in San Antonio.
  • The deadline for submissions is April 2nd, 2018.
  • All photos should be taken in the previous 3 years. 

  • All finalists will have one or more of their submissions appear in the conference program.
  • All finalists may have the opportunity to display and sell their choice of works at the 2018 WHA Conference Exhibits Hall (details on this forthcoming). 
  • All finalists will receive comped registration worth $100. 
  • The winner will have a photo on the cover of the WHA Program, which circulates to over 1,500 members throughout the country, and a cash prize of $300.
